I tried to avoid this, but there's just too much going on with school, RL, etc right now, and I simply don't have time for LJ, at all. As it turns out, I have no organizational skills whatsoever, so my motto nowadays is 'Don't make plans, they're doomed to fail'. And since I can't be sure when I'll have a bit of free time, I'm going to say I'll see you in December, when the term is over.:( I'm going ot miss you, guys. But I was becoming an Internet-addict, anyway, so a bit of withdrawal will do me good, I'm sure.

Boris Vallejo - Spring Garden

...and because it hurts me physically to leave out these, The Bride and Dragon's Birth.

It might sound weird, but Vallejo was my first favourite artist, ever. I literally saw his work first when I was in kindergarten, because my dad had one of his books and he let us see the pretty pictures. Which, okay, might actually be a not really great parental decision, considering there were a lot of scantily-clad (or naked) women in it, but whatever. It wasn't traumatizing, and it made me interested in art, so I count it as a win. I grew to like more 'serious' art later, but I still love Vallejo's style. I think him being my introduction to visual arts is the reason I'm attracted to the weirder stuff, like surrealism and Bosch and basically anything with monsters/unrealistic elements. He may not be the best artist out there, even in the fantasy/sci-fi genre, but he's good at what he does and sometimes I value good craftsmanship over staggering talent.

The thing I like the most about his paintings? The colours and the way he paints wings. Especially in the Dragon's Birth pic, the dragon looks like an insect more than a lizard, and it's a great concept, in my opinion. Spring Garden is just beautiful. And The Bride is actually powerful and dynamic in a way his other paintings aren't, and I'm inordinately fond of that kind of pose (arms open, hair blowing, with a stormy sky as background. It's weirdly specific, and I can't actually explain it, other than my attraction to drama).

Other than that, there's nothing new. Though I did spend a very satisfying few hours organizing my e-mail, which means the only thing I don't have in common with Jon from Garfield now is that I don't have a cat, ergo I'm actually less awesome. Yay. Plus, I watch too much TV, because I can identify at least half of the various actors, regardless of series/importance of role/severity of make-up, if not by name, than by face. But it's sometimes rewarding, since I managed to catch the only episode of Blind Justice that ZQ is in, and almost got a heart-attack in the process. (Sidenote: I'm so delighted that there's such a big crossover rate from TV-to-movie and vica versa. Seeing familiar faces is always a lovely experience. And it's great that my favourite TV actors have a chance at big screen fame.) Incidentally, that's also the only episode of Blind Justice I've ever watched, since I wasn't aware of its existence before. IT'S A SIGN, I TELL YOU.

Also, The Big Bang Theory is awesome and I don't know what I was thinking that I didn't start watching it right away. Though it does scare me with how much I can identify with the geekiness, except for the being geniuses thing.

The radio silence was/is thanks to my ISP being a bunch of fuckers whose sole purpose is to make my life miserable and COMPLETELEY INTERNET-LESS. GRRRR. I don't know when I'll get it back, so I'll see you sometime in the (hopefully near) future.

Man, this weekend was so busy I forgot how my bed looked like. But it was fun, too, so I'm not complaining. We spent most of our time at my grandmother's, because there were some relatives visiting and we see them, like, annually, so there was a lot of catching up to do. They only stayed for the weekend, too, so I think it's not surprising that we came home at 3AM on Saturday.:D I thought I'd have more time to sneak away for a bit of f-listing, but no such luck. I think I read all your entries, though, just didn't have time to comment, and now I won't because I always feel weird commenting on older entries.:S SO I'M STILL STALKING YOU, NEVER FEAR. I just realized that I have a month to write both of my reel_merlin fics and my cliche_bingo fics, and I have started exactly 1, as in, ONE, of them, so I'm going to take a hiatus. I know, I suck, but at least I warned you this time. That has to count for something, right? RIGHT? Come September, both challenges will be over, plus I'll be bored out of my mind because of school, so I'm going to man up and actually check my LJ. Not that I plan a month-long hiatus. But knowing me, that's not that much of a stretch, either.:( My summer is so not going the way I planned it.

Guys, guys, I know I've been scarce around these parts, but I'm back! (Or will be back. Tomorrow.) This was a totally unintentional hiatus, which is why I just disappeared into the ether without warning. I'm sorry for being a bad internet-friend.:( In my defence, I'm a bad friend IRL, too.

I'm re-reading Burning Chrome for cliche_bingo (yes, I've finally decided on the prompts), catching up on Discworld (I haven't read the whole series yet, shame on me) and trying to fight the urge to read Good Omens for the nth time (I'm currently losing). Also, Gnarls Barkley's Who's Gonna Save My Soul just came on the radio, and the DJ might have said that, but I totally heard it as Hookers In My Soul. Is it a bad sign that I instantly perked up? It's just, I think there's not enough songs about hookers, except for Roxanne and Tomorrow We'll See (and what's up with Sting and hookers? He's, like, the last guy on Earth I would've expected to write a song about prostitutes, not to mention two), and Hookers In My Soul sounds deliciously surreal.

And oh look, I've just wrote an entire entry about hookers. I wanted to say something else, too, but I forgot now. But isn't this the kind of high-brow entertainment and philosophical depths you're here for? (Don't answer that.)

In other film news, I've finally watched Les Triplettes de Belleville. Congrats, self, it only took you 5 years. Anyway, it was, well, not disappointing, per se, just not what I expected. I mean, what would you think if you've only seen the video below?

You'd think it was a trippy, funny, '20s France film, right? Even the story ('Tour de France racer kidnapped by French mafia; Granny&3 crazy old women to the rescue!') suggests a bit of old-fashioned crime story/comedy. But guys, it's just so fucking depressing. So bleak. Which, considering the brilliant art with mostly warm colours, is quite a feat indeed. Or maybe I'm just oversensitive. Blah.

The music is still brilliant, though.

Yeah, so, apparently I'm less of a genius than I thought but still genius enough to pass all of my exams at least on the second try.\o/ Also, for the record, all of my teachers are crazy in their own little personal ways. I'm equal parts charmed and terrified.

Fortunately, I had time for other stuff, too, like going to a concert where I almost fell asleep. IT'S NOT MY FAULT, WE WERE SITTING AND THE MUSIC WAS VERY RELAXING. Also, my friend said I'm acting like a drunk when I'm tired, which might actually be true, and a good explanation for all my crazy late-night comments/entries. JSYK.

First things first: hi new friends! There are so many of you and I'm kind of overwhelmed, but I'm trying to keep up. (At least I had enough common sense to stay away from the new Merlin meme, will wonders never cease?) I promise I'll stalk you properly in, hm, circa two weeks, but RL is a bitch now.

So, I just sent in my BB fic yesterday (it is waaay less awesome than I would have liked, but at least it's done, god, finally), and then signed up for reel_merlin, and I signed up for cliche_bingo even before that.*headdesk* That, plus the summerpornathon=no tan for me this summer, either.

My friend has an extra ticket for a concert because her bf cannot go, so I'm going with her.\o/ Neither of us knows the band that well, but we've seen them at a festival and they were quite good, and at least we get to hang out and chat.

I failed three out of three of my exams so far, which, WTF, hasn't happened since my first year. Whatever, at least they're better spaced now. Actually, I should be working on an essay, which I wanted to finish yesterday, but then the Pornathon happened, so. BUT! THIS IS SO NOT IMPORTANT BECAUSE I'VE JUST WATCHED THE AWESOMEST VIDEO EVER. THIS:

This appeals to my weird fondness for '80s series. (Does anyone remember Remington Steele? And Moonlighting? Bruce Willis still had hair in that one.) I mean, I wasn't even born when these originally aired, ffs.

Also, BLUR IS BACK TOGETHER. How is that not awesome? I fucking love Damon Albarn's voice. And the man himself, too (how could I not, when he's one of the few men who look good in make-up, cf. The Universal video). ♥ Sadly, there's no mention of a new album (though Gorillaz is apparently said to be recording one?). Oh man oh man. I wish I lived in England. And I wish I could find that concert video where he totally gets the beginning of Beetlebum wrong and cracks up. It was so adorable, but it has been deleted from Youtube.

And now back to the essay, grr. Illusory correlation, I do not care for thee.

So LJ says I haven't updated in two weeks, and I have this paranoid notion that people would forget me if I don't somehow confirm my continued existence periodically. Result? A post in which nothing happens.

Boring real life info: I'm alive. Yay, I guess. Also, I have 7 exams, and two essays to write still. My laptop's monitor had died completely, so I had to dig out an old tabletop one, which sort of defeats the point of laptops, but at least I don't have to contort myself/the monitor into uncomfortable and possibly crippling positions. /RL (I swear, the rest is more exciting, if only marginally.)

The reason why I never really talk about music here is that a, I never know what to say other than 'Hey, this is cool, check it out' b, I listen to a lot of Hungarian bands no one outside of the country borders heard of. Case in point: the above video. So enjoy this while it lasts.

I've also been watching some Scrubs. It's quirky and over-the-top, so of course it was love at first sight. I know I'm late to the party, since it just ended in the US, but that's what reruns and broadband internet connections are for. I DL-ed Merlin, too, and I'll try to convert my best friend, if not to the fandom, than at least to just the show. She's coming over on Saturday. My sister found a bottle of eggnog in the fridge. Sounds like party time, y/y?:D


In other news, I have a lot of fic ideas, I just can't write them yet. Hopefully, that'll change after the BB (OMG I DON'T EVEN HAVE A WHOLE WEEK TILL THEN ARGH). All of them has the potential for crack. Coincidence? I think not.

Also, f-list, expect more weird and rambly comments on your posts from me. Despite my exams, I have a lot of free time on my hands, and I'll use that to stalk you.

Also, my BB fic just hit 11k. Yay!

So, this was the last day of the semester, which is much cause for happiness, even if it was a shitty one. Apart from some fresh financial woes, which everyone has nowadays so I won't bother you with the details, I almost missed my train, then thought I had lost my Batman pin (wut, I am very attached to it), and then failed a class because I decided I didn't care enough to write a 5-page essay about a book (a 400-page book!) I haven't read, based on articles I haven't even looked at, IN ONE DAY. So yay, failage. My BB fic is gathering dust since Wednesday, and I think I haven't slept more than six hours a night in weeks. My stupid laptop monitor only works if I hold it at a certain angle, which is good for neither my nerves nor my left hand (ow, my thumb is kind of deformed now). I am so ready for summer break you wouldn't believe it.

But to say something positive, I finally counted my credits, and it seems that I might be able to finish uni in another year instead of two, if I get my act together. Though I can hand in my thesis only in the fall term after that, but that's the least of my problems now.

Also, I'm cheering myself up by watching the video diaries and eating everything within arm's reach. That means my super-sekkrit chocolate-stack, which is Very, Very Bad for my diet and resolution-for-a-healthy-lifestyle. Also, I may or may not have Gimp open to paste my ugly mug over Colin in this picture, and mulling over how Bradley is the perfect height for me.
